Hyaluronic acid injections plump lips, which consists of inflating the lips and redefining someone’s mouth, no matter what its initial size is. Since the effects are instantly seen, injections are gradually made to determine the effect wanted by the patient.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW BEFORE AN INJECTION?
Hyaluronic acid injections can only be performed on individuals who are 18 years or older. Thanks to the application of an anesthetic cream, it is possible to minimize the pain. Small precautions need to be taken 1 week before the session to prevent bleeding: no alcohol consumption, no sun exposure, and no anti-inflammatory medication. On top of that, injections require a good health state and to be clear of antibiotics. If a client has a history of cold sores or buccal herpes, an antiviral will be administered pre- and post-treatment, but the intervention is still possible. It is important to note that other medical interventions such as lasers can’t be made within the month following the hyaluronic acid injection. To summarize, this intervention always needs to be preceded by a full medical consultation and by a health professional to ensure the patient a risk-free treatment!
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance produced by our body in which is stored collagen and elastin, two agents contributing to firmness and elasticity of the skin. It also regulates hydration and reconstitutes skin structures. Hyaluronic acid injections have the property of hydrating, giving volume and reducing wrinkles around the mouth. They reproduce a beautiful and natural plumped lip-contour, while making them flexible and more defined. Hyaluronic acid is often used to replace collagen since it is well tolerated by the epidermis and therefore reduces the risk of allergies and produces durable effects.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL SESSION LIKE?
After disinfecting the lips, a professional practitioner injects hyaluronic acid at a few millimeters in depth using a very fine needle. Depending on the desired effect, redefining the lips or recreating volume, the injections will be done along the line separating the red lip from the white lip or directly in the red lip for a plumping effect. They can be done either in the upper lip only or in both lips. A session lasts about 30 minutes and gives results that last between 8 to 12 months depending on how your organism will degrade the injected product.
WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT?
Depending on your expectations, a natural aspect can be privileged and obtained thanks to the experience and practice of a medical aesthetics professional. People with thin and fine lips can aspire to having more volume gradually without fearing a non-natural look. Results can be seen immediately after a session and can be modified during the following days to arrive at an optimal result, two weeks later. We notice that patients who like the effect on the day following the intervention (when the lips are slightly swollen) can come back for a small additions or final touch-ups. In all cases, the result depends on the quantity of product injected. It is therefore important to make the injections gradually, preventing the alteration of natural-looking results. Note that swelling or ecchymosis can appear after the injections, but they will disappear after a couple of days.
