Clinical Botox Cosmetic injections
Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
BOTOX COSMETIC® injections are made of botulinium toxin type A, which are exclusively produced by ALLERGAN laboratories. They are created from a natural purified protein, which relaxes the muscles responsible for wrinkles, helping reduce their appearance. The result: a well-rested, refreshed and rejuvenated look.
Small doses of BOTOX COMESTIC® injections are safe when administered by competent and experienced professionals, always under medical supervision.
It is a simple, quick, minimally invasive and non-surgical treatment that gives surprisingly good and natural results.
The discomfort is minimal. It is often compared to a small insect bite that only lasts a few seconds. Patients can immediately return to their activities after the intervention.

Here are some examples in the form BEFORE/AFTER illustrating the efficiency of the treatments.
Longevity of the effects
The effects of BOTOX COSMETIC® injections start to show within 1 to 2 weeks and generally last 3 to 4 months. It all depends on the patient, the treated areas and the doses. However, the longevity of the effects increases with the number of times a region is treated. Since we lose the habit of using the paralyzed muscle, the wrinkle takes more time to re-appear.
Note that wrinkles will come back as they were before treatment if the latter is interrupted.

A product that has proven itself
BOTOX COSMETIC® treatment is the only one in its category that has been used by hundreds of patients worldwide with over 10 years of proven safety and efficiency. Canada was the first country to allow BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments thanks to a Vancouverite’s work: Doctor Carruthers.
BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments are classified as number one in aesthetic interventions worldwide, including Canada. In 2004, we have noticed a 40% augmentation in the number of BOTOX COSMETIC® injections in the country. Last year, 2.8 million injections were made in the United States and more than 120 000 in Canada.
Other neuromuscular blocking agents
Over the past decade, medical research on rejuvenating products has exploded.XEOMIN®, another neuromuscular blocking agent used worldwide for many years, has arrived in Canada and is now approved by the FDA to remove facial wrinkles. It is also a botulinium toxin of type A, but is is “uncovered”, meaning it is not covered with a protein.
XEOMIN® offers the same results, same indications and same longevity.
DYSPORT® also made of botulinium toxin of type A, was approved by Health Canada in 2013. However, the United States have been using this product since 2009, and the United Kingdom since 199. DYSPORT® offers the same results, indications and longevity as the two other products on the market.
It is during a consultation in clinic that we will be able to determine which product works best for your condition and expectations.
ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
HOW DO WRINKLES FORM?
The movement of eyebrow muscles provokes the folding of the skin. With time, since skin loses elasticity, frowning creates visible lines and wrinkles. The wrinkles that are most often treated by BOTOX COSMETIC® injections:
- Glabella wrinkles (area located between the eyebrows)
- Crow’s feet
- Lower face (lips, marionette lines or neck)
The best results are obtained in the upper face.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
In more than 10 years of clinical treatment, no long-term side effects have been reported in regards to the use of BOTOX COSMETIC®. The most common side effects are sensitivity and ecchymosis at the point of injection. The rarest side effects go from headaches to nausea. Temporary sagging of the eyelids has also been noted, but it is a very rare phenomenon, and complementary treatments exist to correct it. We suggest avoiding aspirin or any other anticoagulant medicine (including some natural products) before the the treatment and to apply a slight pressure right after the BOTOX COSMETIC® injection, followed by ice.
As in many other cases for other treatments, pregnant women and those breastfeeding should postpone their BOTOX COSMETIC® treatment. Patients suffering from neuromuscular troubles such as myasthenia gravis or Eaton-Lambert.
DOES THERE EXIST OTHER USES FOR BOTOX COSMETIC® INJECTIONS?
Numerous medical conditions can be treated with BOTOX® injections. The other main use of BOTOX® therapeutic injections in dermatology is to treat excessive sudation of the armpits (hyperhidrosis). This treatment can be partially covered by your insurance or the RAMQ.
